SENSORIUM
MEMOIRS S/S 2150
06.04.2022
In the year 2150, the metaverse has virtually taken over our daily lives. It is where people study, work, play and socialise; a perpetual digital society. People are increasingly detached from their physical reality and have lost touch with their cultural roots. In the metaverse, people are virtually free from the constraints of their physical limitations, but in reality they are still clad in e-textile garments. Although this way of life is largely accepted as the new normal, some are starting to yearn to reconnect with their cultural heritage. The rediscovery of a digital archive of traditional artisanal craftsmanship sparks a new creative movement which seeks to integrate these artisanal techniques with commonplace e-textiles.
Sensorium is distinctive for its innovative and creative expression of the Asian cultural heritage and craftsmanship. The preservation of cultural heritage is vital to our sense of cultural identity and connection to the fading past. These sensorial pieces can be interacted with by our wearers to invoke cultural memories while cultural techniques can be personalised to represent our wearer’s roots.
The capsule collection “Memoirs” explores how fashion can reconfigure our body out of its generic and symbolic modes of representation by igniting a connection to our forgotten roots. Inspired by the complexity of the human body and our digital environment, this collection highlights its functionality as a vehicle of expression, embodying experiences of the past.
